Post Graduate Certificate in Education/ Certificate in Education PGCE (PCET)

Course Outline

This 2-year part-time professional education course is available to anyone who teaches or wishes to teach in continuing and post compulsory education. This includes higher, further and adult education as well as other areas.

Entry requirements

For practising teachers no formal entry requirements. If you intend to teach but are not currently doing so, you should be suitably qualified and/or experienced in your chosen field.

What will I study?

Year 1 l Introduction to Teaching l Perspectives on Learning l Planning and Assessing Learning l Group Learning and Management l Professional Development Year 2 l Curriculum in Context l Teaching and Learning Strategies l Professional Development Two option modules to choose from a wide range available.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is assessed through a written assignment. You will also be expected to keep a record of professional activities on which you will be assessed.

Career Opportunities & Progression

Opportunities exist within Further and Higher Education, Community Education and training, local government and the voluntary sector to name but a few. Many students go on to study for degrees or diplomas on completion of this course.
