This course is offered on a part time day or evening basis for one year. This qualification is designed to provide: A framework of education & training for teaching assistants; Opportunities for teaching assistants to achieve a nationally recognised level 3 vocationally specific qualification; Opportunities for candidates to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the teaching assistants field; The knowledge, understanding and skills candidates need to provide effective support in the classroom; Opportunities to focus on the development of major key skills and wider key skills in a teaching assistants context such as working with others and problem solving; Opportunities for candidates to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

Entry requirements

You will require a BTEC Certificate Level 2 or equivalent although mature candidates presenting a more varied profile of achievement will be welcomed.

What will I study?

You will study: 3 Core Units, Unit 1 The Reflective Practitioner; Unit 2 Support Learner Development and Unit 3 Support Teaching & Learning. Also 2 Options from a choice of: Unit 4 Supporting Bilingual Learners; Unit 5 Supporting Literacy or Unit 6 Supporting Numeracy.

How will I be assessed?

Units are assessed in a variety of ways but will include, Written assignment work, Observed practical work, Witness statements, Oral questioning and Role play situations within the centre.

Career Opportunities & Progression

After successful completion of this course you could progress to an NVQ Level 4/5 Learning and Development; NVQ Level 4 in Co-ordination of Learning and Development Provision; Level 4 BTEC Professional Award in Basic Skills Development in the Workplace.
