A2 Film Studies (WJEC)

This course develops the knowledge and understanding of film that students developed throughout the AS Level Film Studies course through a development in their own critical understanding of film and its many forms. Theoretical and critical perspectives will be developed in relation to such things as ?censorship? and ?shock cinema?. There will also be a movement away from the ?Hollywood Blockbuster? understanding of film to see how film functions within wider contexts.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved AS Film Studies. Please not that AS and A2 Film Studies may be taken together in some circumstances.

What will I study?

The modules you will study are: Module 1: Making meaning explores the relationship that directors have in the film making process. Module 2 explores films produced beyond the ?norm? of Hollywood, while Module 3, which is the synoptic module, explores various theories relating to film production and consumption.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is my means of one coursework portfolio and two written examinations.

This specification provides a suitable foundation for the study of Film, Media, Communication studies, Cultural Studies or other areas of study at further or higher education and/or preparation for future employment.
