AS Film Studies (WJEC)

This course allows students to gain a broad and sound appreciation of film in relation to analysis, industry and production. A wide variety of films will be studied and analysed in terms of narrative and story, genres, directors, stars, editing, sound, lighting, camera movements etc. The film industry, in particular Hollywood and the British Film Industry, will also be studied in detail.

Entry requirements

You will require 4 GCSEs, with English at grade C or above preferred.

What will I study?

The modules you will study are: Module 1: Making meaning explores such things as editing, sound, camerawork, genres and narrative in film. Module 2 looks at film production and audiences. Module 3 attempts to explore films for deeper messages that they may carry.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is my means of one coursework portfolio and two written examinations.

Career Opportunities & Progression

This specification provides a suitable foundation for the study of Film, Media, Communication studies, Cultural Studies or other area of study at further or higher education and/or preparation for future employment.
