Access to Higher Education, Humanities

This one-year full-time or two-year part-time course provides a fast-track route into Higher Education for students without formal qualifications. The objective of the course is to provide a supportive and friendly environment to enable you to develop your potential and to prepare you for University-level study, with many hundreds of past students going on to gain degrees and other awards. You will study a selection of the following subjects: Sociology, Psychology, Law, History and English Literature, all at Level 3. You will also study Key Skills units in Communication, Numeracy and ICT.

Entry requirements

No formal academic qualifications are required, although applicants should be aware that the course requires a high level of dedication and that work is mostly at Level 3 standard (A-Level equivalent). In addition, you will be invited to attend an interview. For those who feel they need more time to reach the standard required for Level 3 work, a one-year Level 2 Access course is offered at Pontypridd campus, which will prepare students to progress to the Level 3 Access course the following year.

What will I study?

You will studying a selection of the following subjects: Psychology, Sociology, Law, History and English Literature. In addition, all Access learners study Key Skills units.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continuously through a range of assignments and project work. You will also be expected to maintain your course files and assignment portfolio to the required standards.

Career Opportunities & Progression

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to apply for Honours degree courses in Higher Education in areas such as: English, History, Law, Sociology, Psychology, Teacher Training, Combined Studies and many others. Many Access students choose to remain at Coleg Morgannwg to study for the BA Joint Honours Degree in History and English franchised by the University of Wales Lampeter and taught at Aberdare campus.
