CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education (Level 3)

This 2-year Level 3 course provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary for working in a variety of Childcare settings. Time is spent in the college and in a number of appropriate work placements, in order to gain experience, planning and carrying out activities and to observe children's development. The course is presented in units and assessment is on a continuous basis in the college and the workplace. The minimum attendance of 80% is a requirement at college and a total of 125 days at work placement is essential.

Entry requirements

To obtain a place on this course you will need to successfully complete an interview at the college, provide two satisfactory professional references and a satisfactory Police Check. You will also undertake a written test. We are looking for students with enthusiasm, good communication skills, a professional attitude to learning and minimum qualifications of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and/or Welsh. Those who have gained a Merit/Distinction grade on the CACHE Level 2 Diploma or BTEC Intermediate courses will be welcome to apply for a place on this course. This popular course is accredited with up to 360 UCAS points. Prospective students need to show commitment to study. The college welcomes applications from mature students who do not necessarily meet our standard academic entry requirements.

What will I study?

You will study a range of units to include: Child Development 0-16; Play; Practical Elements; Observation & Assessment etc. In addition to these units you will study the Key Skills of Communication, Application of Number and ICT.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed using a range of methods which will include assignments and examinations.

Career Opportunities & Progression

Successful completion of the course will provide you with 360 UCAS points, allowing you to apply for degree level courses such as teaching, nursing or social work. You will have the opportunity to develop a meaningful career in a range of childcare settings, for example, Schools, Nurseries, Special Schools, Day Care Centres, Hospitals or working for private families as a Nanny. This course is also available on a part-time basis.
