Foundation Learning Tier - Construction & Welsh Baccalaureate

Course Outline

This 1-year course consists of both Entry and Level 1 study units. The qualification aims at providing progression onto college mainstream Technical Certificates and NVQ qualifications at both Foundation and Level 1 programmes in Construction, Painting & Decorating, Electrical Installations, Brickwork and Carpentry. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate. Please be aware that this course is delivered across different campuses Lessons at a campus will be for a full day and you will not be expected to travel to a different campus on the same day.

Entry requirements

There are no Formal Entry Qualifications for this course. All prospective students will undertake a formal interview and college devised initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.

What will I study?

You will study the following OCN units, which will be workshop and classroom-based subjects: Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating and Computer Aided Design as well as Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a programme of both practical activities and theory based assignments. You will be required to build a portfolio of evidence to support studies.

Career Opportunities & Progression

After successful completion of this course you could progress onto mainstream courses in construction specialising in Construction Technical, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating or even Plumbing for those who achieve high standards in their work.
