The course includes learning about information handling, measuring and modelling using computers, communication, control, system design and applications. It also investigates the effects of using computer based systems.

Entry requirements

Students need no formal qualifications to attend this course, however, an interest in Information Communications Technology may be beneficial.

What will I study?

Students will study a range of topics including: · Information Processing · Impact of ICT on Society · Problem Solving · Data Control · Hardware & Software · Systems Analysis

How will I be assessed?

Students will complete 2 detailed pieces of coursework throughout the year, a portfolio and project. Coursework is of a practical nature and will involve using applications from a range of packages including databases, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Students will sit 2 formal written examinations at the end of the course. These can be sat at Foundation or Higher level depending on the student's progress

Career Opportunities & Progression

Students can further their knowledge by progressing on to either an Advanced Level ICT course or a BTEC Diploma for IT Practitioners. Alternatively students have the opportunity to seek employment with their newly gained qualification.
