BTEC National Diploma in Health & Social Care & Welsh Baccalaureate

The National Diploma in Care can be achieved over 2 years. The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a variety of Health and Social Care settings, including Nursing, Social Work and Teaching. You will attend college four days a week; the fifth day will be on work placement. Alongside the National Diploma, you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to 1 A level. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the College with 2 qualifications, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

Entry requirements

To obtain a place on this course you will need to successfully complete an interview at the college, which will include an entrance test. All places offered are subject to two professional references and a satisfactory Police Check. You are required to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and/or Welsh or a BTEC First at Distinction level (or an equivalent qualification). The GCSEs should preferably include English, Maths and Science. The college welcomes applications from mature students who do not necessarily meet our standard academic entry requirements.

What will I study?

The course is presented in units, and includes Equal Opportunities; Communicating in Health & Social Care; Physical Aspects of Health and Research Perspectives. You will also develop Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number & ICT and Wider Key Skills. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is focused on the 9 units that will be covered each year. For each unit there is only one method of assessment, which is an assignment.

Career Opportunities & Progression

The BTEC Diploma in Care is a nationally recognised qualification enabling you to seek higher-level employment in a wide variety of Health and Social Care areas, such as Nursing or Social Work. The course could also enable you to progress to University.
